Lviv (2013)
Captured during a trip to Lviv form a collection of memories intertwined with the experiences of that time. The journey began in Gdańsk, Poland, and continued into Ukraine on a night train, where passengers waited in their cabins as engineers changed the train's wheels to fit the older Soviet rail lines. The initial days were spent observing the subtle yet distinct differences between Poland and Ukraine, while mapping out routes to explore local neighborhoods.
Lviv’s "sleeping districts" had been written about, drawing attention as an area of interest for documentation. The visit coincided with the early stages of the pro-European movement, which would later escalate into the Euromaidan Protests and the ousting of President Yanukovych the following February. Although smaller protests advocating for political reform were seen in Lviv’s center, with hundreds rather than thousands in attendance, the city displayed a strong sense of support for Ukrainian independence and pro-Western ideals.
